Jar of Coins Adds Up to $20,000 Lottery Prize WinWhen John DeForest of Terryville cashed in some spare coins recently he wasn’t expecting to end up with an extra $20,000 in his pocket, but that’s exactly what he did.
“I save all my change in a jar at work. Then, every once in a while, I go to the store and cash them in and buy a lottery ticket,” DeForest said. The first “20X The Cash 6th Edition” instant game ticket DeForest purchased was a $40 winner. He put half of the prize money in his pocket and bought one more ticket. “I went back to work and scratched the ticket just before going inside. When I saw I won $20,000, I had to look at the ticket about 100 times to believe it,” said DeForest with a laugh.
CT Lottery’s 10X, 20X and 30X The Cash instant games are very popular among its players, due to the excitement of revealing an “X” game prize multiplier and the large number of top prizes available in each game.
“I need a new car, so we’re probably going to use the money for that,” DeForest said to Lottery officials just before he accepted his prize check for $20,000 (before taxes). “What a nice thing to happen just before the holidays.”
DeForest’s top prize winning ticket was purchased at Danny’s Mini Mart located at 699 Main Street in Plymouth. For selling the ticket, the retailer will receive a $200 check from the CT Lottery.
The winning names, stories and photos on this website are just a small number of the thousands who claim prizes. The fact is, people win every day with the CT Lottery! Below is a list of recently claimed prizes of $10,000 or more. Please Note: When a winning scratch ticket is validated through a Lottery Retailer's terminal, the remaining number of unclaimed prizes for that prize level is automatically updated reflecting one less prize. Until the individual or group presents their winning ticket for claim at CT Lottery Headquarters, the identity of a winner is unknown.
