CT Lottery Supports National Problem Gambling Awareness Month, March 2014Consistent with its ongoing and well recognized commitment to increase public awareness about responsible play, the Connecticut Lottery Corporation and its Board of Directors pledge its support for National Problem Gambling Awareness for the month of March 2014.

If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, the Connecticut Lottery Corporation urges you to call 1-888-789-7777, a free resource to help those with gambling problems or visit to access PG live chat.  The Problem Gambling Helpline is a 24-hour toll-free service, established for the purpose of providing information, support and referrals to persons impacted by problem gambling.

“Through our collaboration with experts in the problem gambling field, we know that the gambling problems can affect the entire family,” said Anne M. Noble, President and CEO of the CT Lottery.  “The Lottery remains committed to educating our players, our vendors, our retail partners and ourselves about the dangers of problem gambling.  We especially remain vigilant in our efforts to discourage youth from gambling.  Help is available.”

A commitment to responsible gaming education and awareness is a core value of the Lottery, reflected in various corporate responsibility initiatives.  The CT Lottery’s on-going efforts in support of responsible gambling during the past year included:

• Participating and contributing to the CT Council on Problem Gambling Annual Conference.
• Participating in the annual holiday responsible gambling campaign sponsored by the National Council on Problem Gambling and the International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High Risk Behaviors at McGill University.
• Reminding educators and parents of the impact that gambling problems can have on families.
• Continuing our ongoing marketing efforts to educate consumers that lottery tickets are not a suitable gift for children under 18 years of age.
• Receiving the “North American 2012 Holiday Campaign Award” for the second consecutive year by the National Council on Problem Gambling and McGill University.

The CT Lottery’s support of National Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) will include:

• Restricted product advertising from radio and TV.
• Broadcast of television and radio PSAs in support of responsible gambling.
• Digital billboards to promote the Problem Gambling Helpline number.
• A letter and bi-lingual flyers to retail partners reminding them about National Problem Gambling Awareness Month and encouraging them to participate.
• A resolution in support of PGAM adapted by the Board of Directors.

Since 1996, the Lottery returned a total of $22,323,000 million to the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Chronic Gamblers Treatment and Rehabilitation Fund.  In fiscal year 2013, the CT Lottery returned $2.3 million to the fund.

The CT Lottery is also part of the CT Partnership for Responsible Gambling, the CT Women’s Problem Gambling Project and the CT Coalition for Responsible Gambling, which includes representation from all of the gambling organizations in the state, as well as the Division of Special Revenue, the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Problem Gambling Services and the Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling.
